"Amarkantak s Indira Gandhi National Tribal University was created by an Act of the Indian Parliament. The Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Act of 2007 established it, and it went into effect in July 2008. The University s jurisdiction encompasses the entire country, and it is supported entirely by the Central Government through the University Grant Commission. The university fulfils the tribals long-held desire of obtaining a higher education.
Aims and Objectives - Tribal people have a rich cultural legacy and artistic and craft skills, but they are still marginalised in higher education and other aspects of life.As humanity has progressed in technology, the world has shrunk into a village in the current age of globalisation. In this drive for growth, however, the tribes, who are the true caretakers of Indian culture, fall far behind. To help them out of their current predicament, the university has set the following goals and objectives for itself:
To provide educational opportunities, particularly higher education and research facilities, principally for India s tribal population. To share and enhance knowledge in tribal art, tradition, culture, language, medical systems, customs, forest-based economic activities, flora and fauna, and technological advancements pertaining to tribal natural resources by offering instructional and research facilities.
Collaboration with national and international universities and organisations, particularly for cultural studies and tribal community research.
Form tribal-centric development models, publish reports and monographs, and arrange conferences and seminars on tribal-related topics, as well as providing policy input in various domains. To take suitable measures to promote tribal community members who are capable of managing, administering, and looking after their own requirements by providing them with access to higher education through their own institution.
To disseminate and enhance knowledge by offering teaching and research facilities in any other field of study that it deems appropriate.
To take suitable measures to promote innovations in teaching and learning processes in inter-disciplinary studies and researches, with a particular focus on the social, educational, and economic situations, as well as the welfare of the scheduled tribes within the Union of India.Given the university s goals and objectives, a primary focus will be on expanding opportunities for the tribes. The university, on the other hand, is open to everyone."
